Standing on the shoulders of the many musical giants that came before him, J. P. Murphy (a.k.a. Johnny) takes influence from American songwriters such as Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Robert Hunter, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, and many others.
Taking a mostly DIY approach, Johnny creates music from a foundation of multiple genres, while considering a wide variety of styles, ranging from Rock, Americana, Country, Folk, Blues, Reggae, Funk, Soul, Pop, and Oldies.
His current musical output is centered around the singer/songwriter influences from past generations, with a hint of Southern Rock, Latin/World, Folk, Jazz, Fusion, Reggae, and the list goes on.
