Katy is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music teacher from Northern Virginia. She plays folk, roots, pop and bluegrass music. Her passion for music was inspired by hearing her stepmother play nightly as she lay in bed. She began with classical music as a child. She later shifted gears to folk guitar while studying at UVA. There, she was inspired by hearing Tony Rice and Peter Rowan play live in a small local haunt and another night, hanging out with local artist Dave Matthews, without even realizing it was him until later. Since then, she has picked up the mandolin, ukulele and banjo. Playing and writing music for her is a universal language in which to share stories. Her intention is to grab her audience with her heartfelt lyrics, raw acoustic stripped-down feel and tight vocal harmonies. With a love for authentic expression and relationships, she ventures into bold themes, breaking taboo topics such as lost love, addiction and grief.
