His mother's family was also musically gifted and had some local success in the music business before the streets interrupted the rise to stardom. Legend began writing poetry the moment he learned to put pen to pad. He grew up with odd influences for a rapper with his 1st CD album being Michael Jackson's greatest hits and an influx of motown's music but when he found hip hop he immediately knew what the goal was.
