Luke Wilkerson grew up in the country north of Knoxville, Tennessee. He studied the piano from the young age of 7 with his early music mentor and local music icon Mr. Albert Rule. Luke studied the classics of the piano repertoire from age seven, shaping some aspects of his music but he was deeply affected by the power of folk tunes from an equally early age. The door was effectively opened when Luke’s dad came home with Bob Dylan and Joan Baez records to play for the family. But one of the most defining moments in his young love with the power of song was when a friend played him a recording of The Band singing “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” At that moment the awareness of the power of song was planted and the quest was begun to find some way to tap into that same unspeakable, seemingly narcotic, language in hopes to write words and melodies that might affect others with even a hint of what he’d felt.
