My name is Marisol Ortiz, but I’ve decided to go by just Marisol (MAHD-ee -SOUL). I’ve been singing since I was 5 or 6, when my mom made me and my siblings sing for the entire 8 person congregation in our church. I learned my first jazz standard in high school, Richard Rogers “Someone to Watch Over Me”. Later I got into writing songs and poems, thanks to Amy Winehouse’s musical influence. I have 2 years of collegiate classical voice training, but I’ve decided to follow my heart and work on jazz instead. I’ve been performing publicly for almost 2 years now, and I’m currently the lead singer of Jazz Fusion group In The Pocket. However, I am now making my solo debut with my first single (that has been 3 years in the making, so exciting!), called ambiance in may.
