Born and raised in Melbourne, Victoria, 15-year-old Max McKenzie incorporates a variety of experimental genres from outside of his homeland, primarily consisting of electronic post-rock, ambient, krautrock, and some elements of shoegaze. He has been composing since the age of 11. Prior to releasing his debut solo album titled Cesky Krumlov, McKenzie participated as one of the leading members in the pop-rock band known as The Paperback Writers, from late 2019 to mid-2021. The band released one album, an EP and a couple singles, giving Max some bonus experience early on in his musical journey, along with some knowledge in live performances, having played at the annual Come Together Festival in March of both 2020 and 2021, and another gig elsewhere. Having little equipment to use for his highly ambitious projects, Max uses mostly digital software to make his music.
