Born and raised from Denver, Colorado. A Middle Class African American Family. My parents were Educators/Federal Government Workers. We lost our oldest brother when he was only 7 years old, before my sister and I were born. I am the youngest child. Kinda spoiled, but my parents didn’t play! We all had to learn how to play at least one instrument in our household. I learned how to play the piano and clarinet. I have a couple of guitars and keyboards everywhere. I tried playing all of my siblings, but they didn’t play that. My father’s cousin was Kelly Martin who played with Erroll Garner. They visited our family home in the 50s. My Godfather played trumpet in a number of big bands with Dizzy Gillespie and Cab Calloway, and had his own band. I love that era of music and jazz. We were in awe to have members of Earth, Wind and Fire; as well as Pam Grier also living in our community here in Denver. But going to church was a priority for us all. We were Blessed! Truly Blessed!
