S. Fly aka Blaq Angel is an Emmy® Nominated producer/emcee and was a co-founding member of the mighty Red Light District – a family consisting of emcees, singers, and musicians – and helped pioneer the Alabama underground hip hop music scene. In 1996, Red Light released the now-classic single “I Know”, followed up with the full-length Welcome to the Red Light – Vol. 1 (1997). After joining jazz/soul/funk band Mecca’s Groove in 2003 (trombone), S. Fly (working as Blaq Angel under Blaq Angel Media) was hired to produce original music for PBS/APTV's "Mr. Dial Has Something to Say". The documentary was awarded 4 Emmy® Awards in 2008, with S. Fly also receiving a nomination for acting as Music Director of the soundtrack. S. Fly released his debut solo CD, “Where Did it Go Wrong – the Birth of Blaq Angel” in 2009. Red Light District was honored in 2018 by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame (AMHOF) with the inclusion of the group in their first-ever exhibit honoring Alabama hip-hop.
