Multi-genre singer/producer Rebecca McCartney returns to the city where she was raised by a family of musicians and nerds, now with her own sound and much to say. She grew up immersed in NYC’s classical music world and her early songwriting eventually led to the release of an indie-folk record under the duo name Garden Party (2020) with her close friend, Jakob Leventhal. Now, after a college career studying jazz and playing in an R&B band, McCartney returns to NYC with a genre-pushing debut EP, How You Feel, set for release in late 2021. Calling on her eclectic musical influences and experiences, the new EP generates an edgy, ethereal sound that celebrates McCartney’s buttery vocals and absorbing lyrical insights.

Crying Wolf
Heeey slaps peeps!! I'm an indie soul artist from NYC. This song has a crazy payoff at the end..... listen through if you can! Wrote this song about trying to contain big feelings in one body. Holding them tight until they burst. It’s about getting hurt but not wanting to be dramatic about how deeply the feelings are affecting you because nobody else seems to be reacting this way. The song mimics this journey of taking control of your own emotions, starting in a dreamy soundscape of layered vocal harmony which provides the backbone for the lead melody to introduce the pain and heartache. As the song grows into a full band arrangement, the narrative starts to question victimhood. Then the song bursts into empowerment: rage, confidence, feeling fed up. I decide I will not be the one left crying from this heartbreak. All production done in NYC.more

For Avery, in June
I wrote “For Avery, in June” for my friend who’s been knocked down by relationships so many times. Every time she gets hurt by one of these emotionally illiterate men, I just want her to be okay. So the song’s about that, about calling her back home, and saying that even when these men don’t show up for her, I’ll be there. It’s sad but hopeful. A good song to listen to with small tears and then call your friend you haven’t talked to in a year. Follow along on socials to hear more! more
