Trace Meek came of musical age during the late 1980s in Atlanta, Georgia, emerging from the dark, kudzu-covered underbelly of that region’s music scene during the era of early R.E.M., 86, Smoke, Arms Akimbo, Think Jet, Phantom 309, The Jody Grind, Michelle Malone, the Indigo Girls, Mary My Hope, and more. Trace played guitar, bass, and drums in a string of now-unknown bands. Toward the end of the 1980s, seeking new adventures, Trace migrated to Amherst, Massachusetts, where bands like the Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, and New Radiant Storm King were in their early heyday. In 1995, after graduating with an art degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Trace joined forces with three friends and formed the band the Figments, who went on to enjoy some regional notoriety, playing gigs in Northampton, Massachusetts, Boston, New York, and Providence, Rhode Island over the ensuing ten years, before going on a long hiatus. Currently independent, Trace writes and records in his home studio.
