UMER PIRACHA, originally from Multan, Pakistan, began his vocal practice at age 4 with spiritual chant-recitation, a sacred oral tradition that continues to shape his approach to Sufi vocal aesthetics. His training today is guided by practitioners from a 700-year lineage of Qawwali, a South Asian devotional musical tradition. Based in New York City, Umer has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and his arrangements of fourteenth-century Sufi music have been featured on NPR. His work transcends cultural boundaries, blending mysticism with contemporary elements to create performances that inspire meditation, conversation, and communal healing.
