Vartra is a collective of musicians, dancers, and craftsmen based between Belgrade and Rtanj, Serbia. Led by Siniša and Ivana—the core creative force and conceptual engine behind the project—we shape and direct Vartra as a unified artistic entity, driven by a shared vision of ritual, mystery, and raw physical energy brought to the stage. Our sound draws from a wide spectrum of musical traditions, ranging from gothic and post-punk to Nordic influences, while also engaging with traditional Balkan forms where Slavic and Eastern elements intersect. These influences are not treated as genre references, but as raw materials woven into a living, ritualistic sound language. The lyrics are rooted in old folk incantations, mantras, and archetypal themes drawn from human experience. Language is used selectively: some compositions are fully wordless, while others are performed through a self-created vocal system designed to express what lies beyond structured speech.
