When Ferris was a kid, he wanted to be Chris Brown. It wasn't until his father bluntly told him that he didn't have any singing ability -but a clear talent for writing- that Ferris looked to rap as an outlet. Some might find this discovery late, considering his mother is an acclaimed Hip-Hop journalist; Ferris believes her choice to primarily expose him to other music genres led to the eclectic style-bending songwriting talent that he's been praised for. Raised in NYC, Ferris was lucky enough to avoid the dangers posed by Harlem's streets. Still, he'd have to have been blind to not notice the problems plaguing his community. Watching drug busts, robberies, and general violence from his dining room window was how Ferris first began crafting keen storytelling skills. Like his idol Donald Glover, Ferris is a multidisciplinary artist. He studied theatre at the renowned Fame highschool, TV writing at Chapman University, and has since worked for Ava Duvernay and Justin Simien (to name a few)
