Yunus Muti is a self-taught jazz guitarist, composer, and educator based in Turkey. Starting guitar at age 13 by ear and online, he first developed his skills through transcriptions of artists like Steve Vai and Joe Pass. He later studied jazz at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, working with masters such as Emre Kartari, Howard Curtis, and Dena DeRose, expanding his style from rock-fusion to bebop and modern jazz. Influenced by jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Muti has performed both standards and original music across Turkey, the U.S., the Netherlands, and Germany. After completing his bachelor’s with high honors, he pursued a master’s focusing on improvisation and composition. Since 2016, he has been teaching at the conservatory, bringing an interactive, open-minded approach to jazz education while continuing to compose and perform new jazz projects.
