Machito (born Francisco Raúl Gutiérrez Grillo, February 16, 1908? – April 19, 1984) was an influential Latin jazz musician who helped to refine Afro-Cuban jazz and to create both Cubop and salsa music. He was raised in Havana alongside the singer Graciela, his foster sister.
In New York City, Machito formed the band Machito & His Afro-Cubans in 1940, and with Mario Bauzá as musical director, brought together Cuban rhythms and big band arrangements in one group.

David Díaz is a Cuban-American freelance multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and music educator in the Southern California area. He began music at the of age 5 with the guitar through his father (David Diaz-Gonzales) who was a modernist painter from Cuba and a Nueva Trova guitarist. He later began to study the clarinet and the saxophone where he graduated in music from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After his studies at UCLA, he joined the U.S Air Force Band of the West where he performed around the world. To his credit, he has performed with the following artists: Bill Watrous, Sammy Nestico, Eddie Palmieri, Kenny Burrell, Hubert Laws, Rene Fleming, Boston Brass, and many others.more
