Redgum
Redgum was an Australian folk and political music group formed in Adelaide in 1975 by singer-songwriter John Schumann, Michael Atkinson on guitars/vocals and Verity Truman on flute/vocals; they were soon joined by Chris Timms on violin. All four had been students at Flinders University and together developed an intensely passionate and outspoken outlook. They are known for their protest song exploring the impact of war in 1983's "I Was Only Nineteen (A Walk in the Light Green)", which peaked at #1 on the National singles charts.

Money Goes
Money Goes is about that all-too-familiar feeling. Payday is still a while away, and the bank balance is thinner than a supermodel. Money Goes, man.more

Australia Fair
I've waited until Australia Day (January 26) to post this. Australia's national anthem is "Advance Australia Fair". There are some noble sentiments expressed in it and politicians love to spruik it. But Australia is not fair now and it never really was. Economic inequity has always existed, young people struggle to buy a home and the social contract is under immense strain. I will, however, always advocate for fairness and equity even if it requires a small personal sacrifice. more

Way To Go
Today (15 Dec 2024) is our 45th wedding anniversary. When I came to write a song for my wife in 2021 we already had a long rich history so I decided to write a song about our first few months together (the picture is a genuine historical artefact from 1977). I had only just started learning GarageBand when I recorded the basic tracks. I could barely sing with headphones (some say I can barely sing at all) and I knew very little about mixing and producing. Some day I will re-record this, but it stands as a record of the beginning of my songwriting journey.more
