The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career. The band's fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. Metallica's current lineup comprises founding members, primary songwriters Hetfield, Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo.

The Last Stand at Stamford Bridge
On the 1st of October 1066, a Norwegian invasion army led by Harald Hardråde fought the anglo saxon army led by Harold Godwinson in a battle at Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire. According to sagas, a lone berserker, more than 2 meters tall, held the bridge on his own for more than an hour until he was stabbed by a spear from under the bridge. The Norwegian army was defeated, their king was killed, and the viking era ended. more
