The Last Stand at Stamford Bridge
On the 1st of October 1066, a Norwegian invasion army led by Harald HardrĂ¥de fought the anglo saxon army led by Harold Godwinson in a battle at Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire. According to sagas, a lone berserker, more than 2 meters tall, held the bridge on his own for more than an hour until he was stabbed by a spear from under the bridge. The Norwegian army was defeated, their king was killed, and the viking era ended. more
