Following his first contribution to Afrobeats, “Ifemi”, Floyd Miles found comfort in the vibrant soundscapes of the genre and kept the energy in motion. “Don’t Play” offers a fresh perspective on divine partnerships. Floyd describes a woman who doesn’t mask her authentic self. She “wears no disguise”. The love, loyalty, and respect that she pours into her significant other (and herself) will be reciprocated. Floyd also highlights the theme of trust with lyrics like “I know they all despise / they don’t want much / they just want reply / but she no give dem nothing”—the Queen is not tempted. They are reflections of one another with a love that is both genuine and divinely protected. Floyd explains, “The woman has been put on a pedestal, but I see her on a throne beside her King—that’s balance.
