Gaika James was born in New Orleans, but didn’t stay there too long. He began his journey as a musician in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he began to learn and study the Trombone. Oklahoma wasn’t a place that he would stay around for a long time, either. In 1989, his family moved to Dallas, and he’s been here ever since.
During his college years,he began gigging around Dallas with various types of ensembles (gospel, funk, jazz, reggae, hip-hop, dance/electronica), and gaining a better understanding of how to play and interact with other musicians in creation. Gaika has performed with Toby Keith, Fred Hammond, The Rza, and Kirk Franklin to name a few.
