“Home”
was one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write.
Originally this was supposed to be finished for Mother’s Day from my kids & me… but I kept tearing the mix apart, re-recording vocals, changing lines, starting over. Nothing felt honest enough yet. Some songs u record… this one I had to survive first.
I met my ex-wife when we were 14 years old. We spent 22 years married together, raised two incredible kids together, & she held our entire world together while I spent 25 years flying as a Navy pilot through 17 deployments.
What I didn’t know… was she had been privately fighting stage 4 cervical cancer for over 2 years.
She hid it from me because she knew how many ppl I’d already lost over the years & didn’t want me carrying that weight while I was still in the sky. Toward the end, distance, confusion, outside voices, & my own failures blurred things between us. We divorced… fast. 6 months later, she passed away.
The last thing I ever did was hold her hand while she slipped away.
This song isn’t about perfection. It’s about love that survives misunderstandings, time, regret, sacrifice, grief, motherhood, & all the things we realize too late. She raised our son & daughter while I was gone chasing duty. She was the strongest person I ever knew.
“Home” is for her.
And for anybody who’s ever loved someone so deeply… they became part of ur gravity. more
