My Bad Habit
"My Bad Habit" - Jay Bishop From the upcoming Late Pass release "Cognac & Ballroom" Produced by Jay Bishop All instruments performed by Jay Bishop Background vocals : Rissi Palmer Written by Johnathan Howard Davis (ASCAP) Published by Jay Bishop Music (ASCAP) Mixed & Mastered by Jay Bishop at the Biscuit Factory - Tokyo ©2021 Late Pass “My Bad Habit” single releases to streaming 02/05/21 Album Release Date 03/05/21 on all digital platforms Bandcamp digital download and CD pre-orders begin 02/05/21 Midnight PST ABOUT THIS ALBUM: "A style of lush, sculpted electro-pop that exists at the nexus of house music, soul music, and funk, and Bishop, a singer of winning simplicity, recreates it down to the last plashing chord and liquid bass.” Brian Howe, Indy Week I’m not sure if it is unique to Detroit but there is this thing called a “Cabaret party”. Someone would rent out a banquet hall or especially in Detroit because of all the auto workers, a union hall. Set up tables, a stage, and a dance floor. You get some light catering usually from a family member or friend. Hire a band or two, a comedian, and a DJ. To skirt around liquor license laws make it BYOB (bring your own bottle) and sell setups (soda, juices, mixers, and cups with ice). Set a date and sell tickets. Folk would put on their finest. Women in their furs. Men in their 3 piece with matching gators. Folk would see a show, party, drink, and dance. Do all the line dances. The hustles and slides and wobbles. They would ballroom and two step with their partners. Just forget all the problems of the week gone by. This album is dedicated to that feeling. If my previous album “Steppers” was the album for the cookout, “Cognac & Ballroom” is for going out later that night with your lady to hit the cabaret. Still funky but smoothed out. Songs to dance to filled with romance and sensuality. Songs to vibe with as you sip on a lil something. Music to ride out to with the moonroof open so you can see the stars. This is boogie. This is sophisticated funk. This is Cognac & Ballroom. Thank you for riding with me.
