The Paradox of Fear "Dodelijke nachtschaduw" (Deadly Nightshade) is a masterful exercise in atmospheric rock. The song succeeds in making abstract fear tangible through a perfect symbiosis of haunting lyrics and a driving, almost hypnotic composition. It is a track that the listener not only hears but feels deep in their gut. Nicart’s lyrics offer a fascinating exploration of inner turmoil, wrapped in the metaphor of the 'nightshade' (nachtschaduw). Musically, the track mirrors the duality of the lyrics: a blend of menace and unstoppable momentum, delivered through hypnotic Dutch-language rock. "Dodelijke nachtschaduw" is a triumph of introspective rock. John Nicart succeeds in transforming the unspeakable—the paralyzing fear lurking behind success—into an anthem of resilience. It is a song that invites the listener to confront their own shadows. Within the 1995 catalogue, this track stands as a beacon of artistic integrity and emotional depth. You can feel someone long before they ever touch you. “I FEEL YOU” is built around that magnetic space between two people—the eyes across the room, the distance disappearing step by step, and the moment attraction stops being something either one can hide. A slowed-down Motown-inspired groove, breathy close-mic vocals and dreamy ’50s and ’60s harmonies turn eye contact into chemistry… and chemistry into a pull neither one wants to resist.more
