King David Koresh is from Romulus, Michigan with strong ties to the eastside of Detroit, Southwest Detroit, and Inkster. After a juvenile criminal career of auto theft, robbery, and gang-banging, he turned his life around by converting to Islam and attending Eastern Michigan University. After the gangland murders of relatives in Detroit and Chicago, the popularization of drug use in Hip-Hop, and the rise of Drill Rap, he decided to return to recording and releasing music. His latest release, “No Regrets” (October 2021) is a response to those trends. “No Regrets” is the first single from the forthcoming seven song mixtape “The Souls of Ghetto Folk” (February 2022). King David Koresh’s sound blends blues, Hip-Hop, Trap and Drill, while his content reflects his academic and Black Power training. As an older emcee, King David rejects any notions of ageism in Hip-Hop, as he brings fresh takes on the plight and conditions in poverty-stricken Black communities in his music.
