I wrote this song after noticing something that seems increasingly common today.
Sometimes someone becomes a huge part of your daily life long before they become part of your future.
They send you memes, voice notes at midnight, photos of random moments, maybe even their Netflix account. You know their habits, their fears, their favorite coffee order. You can spend hours talking and still have no idea what you actually are to each other.
The Netflix line started as a little wink to something funny I've seen happen after breakups. Two people can end a relationship, stop speaking, move on with their lives... and somehow one of them is still using the other's Netflix months later.
I thought it perfectly captured a strange modern reality. Sometimes access survives clarity. Sometimes intimacy survives definition.
This song lives in that space between friendship and love.
Not quite a friend. Not quite a relationship.
The hardest part isn't rejection. It's the fear that if you say what you really feel, you might lose something that already means a lot to you.
So you stay quiet. They stay quiet. And both of you keep pretending everything is simple.
Maybe you've been there too.
============================================
#VERSE
You're always first inside my phone
The last notification on
We share our days through little screens
More than some couples ever seem
You send me pictures of your meals
Random thoughts and how you feel
And every midnight voice note leaves
A thousand questions back with me
#PRE-CHORUS
I know your schedule by heart now
Your favorite memes, your hidden doubts
But one thing still remains unknown
What are we when no one's around?
#CHORUS
You gave me your Netflix
I gave your heart a fix
You send me reels at two AM
And I keep you laughing through the night
I play the role of just a friend
Sometimes I think you do it too
But if I'm wrong about the signs
Then I could lose you
So I keep every feeling hidden
Safe behind the things we do
Because what scares me isn't heartbreak
It's losing you
#VERSE
You react with hearts to everything
Send little reels you think I'll like
Tag me under stupid videos
Then disappear for half the night
Your name lives at the top of chats
Like it has rented space for free
Sometimes I wonder if we're close
Or just addicted to routine
#PRE-CHORUS
I know the stories from your past
The dreams you're scared to say out loud
But when somebody asks about us
The answer somehow isn't found
#CHORUS
You gave me your Netflix
I gave your heart a fix
You send me reels at two AM
And I keep you laughing through the night
I play the role of just a friend
Sometimes I think you do it too
But if I'm wrong about the signs
Then I could lose you
So I keep every feeling hidden
Safe behind the things we do
Because what scares me isn't heartbreak
It's losing you
#BRIDGE
Maybe we're both a little careful
Maybe we're both afraid to fall
Maybe we're standing near the doorway
Too scared to move at all
Maybe there's nothing here to find
Maybe I've built this in my mind
But every time you look at me
I leave that thought behind
#CHORUS
You gave me your Netflix
I gave your heart a fix
You send me reels at two AM
And I keep you laughing through the night
I play the role of just a friend
Sometimes I think you do it too
But if I'm wrong about the signs
Then I could lose you
So I keep every feeling hidden
Safe behind the things we do
Because what scares me isn't heartbreak
It's losing you
#OUTRO
Your name still waits above my chats
Like it belongs there naturally
And maybe that's the hardest part
You'll always matter more to memore
