Whistler and His Mother Go Dancing (An Exercise in Self-Idulgence)
One of my earliest pieces, originally composed in 1989. It was much less bombastic than it is here. The title came about because, on the very first rough recording (bass, guitar, keyboards, and a melody track on a Tascam cassette four track, and the entire middle 7/8 section didn't exist yet), I whistled the main melody.
I changed it because, quite frankly, I'm not a very good whistler. However, I had become attached to the title, so there you are.
Instrumentation:
Drums
Bass guitar
Clean funky guitar
Distorted rhythm guitar
Piano
Drawbars organ
Sawtooth synth in 4ths
Tenor sax run through a distortion pedal and a flangermore
