Tuxedo Dave (hatched 1988) is a Bristol-based electronic music producer and tuxedo sea urchin (Mespilia globulus). Regarded as the first echinoderm in Bristol’s electronic scene, he creates aquatic-inspired music from puddles, gutters, tidal pools, and other shallow urban waters. His debut track, “Ground” (2025), blends slow, weighty rhythms, distant melodies, and underwater-processed field recordings of footsteps, concrete vibration, and traffic resonance. Subsequent work combines ambient electronica, experimental club forms, and hydroacoustic recordings from rain-filled streets and harbour edges. Dave uses waterproof, corrosion-resistant synthesizers, pressure-sensitive controllers, and sealed effects units adapted for his physiology, all routinely rinsed and recalibrated after rainfall events. His music explores environment, access, and non-human musicianship, shaped by limited mobility on dry land and a semi-permanent urban habitat, emphasizing submerged textures and tidal rhythms.
