From my album Shadow Games, this song is a tribute to a group of coworkers who, during the pandemic, made a personal choice that set them apart from much of their agency. Known among themselves as the “purebloods,” they endured professional and social isolation, being treated as outsiders by leadership and peers who disagreed with their stance.
The lyrics reflect the solidarity they built in the face of ridicule, policy pressures, and the shadow of potential job loss. With the new DOGE restructuring threatening more uncertainty, the song channels the emotions of resilience, camaraderie, and quiet defiance—acknowledging both the costs and the pride of standing by one’s principles.
It’s ultimately about holding onto identity and dignity even when the winds of change blow hard, and about the shared bond between colleagues who have walked the same difficult road together.more
