Arnold Alaniz is an independent alternative artist from Houston, Texas, creating cinematic songs rooted in emotional honesty. His single “Stockholm Syndrome” sets the emotional gravity of his work, circling themes of emotional captivity and self-awareness, and exposing the quiet conflicts we carry when attachment blurs into identity. Working outside of expectations, Arnold creates music on his own terms, prioritizing honesty and storytelling. His songs don’t offer resolution—they sit in the unease, letting the weight of feeling speak before understanding arrives.

Stockholm Syndrome
Stockholm Syndrome was written to explore the idea of toxic relationships, why people stay in them, and my interpretation of what that might look like. It starts with a scene in which the protagonist is eager to do anything to keep their partner happy, despite how unhealthy their dynamic might be, even disregarding concern and input from others, only to justify the actions and chaos in the relationship. This is followed by a moment of bliss in the chorus that further explains the relationship and introduces ideas of necessity, attachment, and dependency, with lines like "I can't help myself...when you fix me...want you to keep me..." The remainder of the song romanticizes the issues in the relationship and builds with the tension such troubles would have, ultimately leading to a pleading of sorts from the protagonist.more
