I've always found it interesting how two people can experience the same relationship in completely different ways. What feels like reassurance to one can feel like pressure to the other. What feels like freedom to one can feel like abandonment to someone else.
"Your Anxiety" starts from the avoidant side of that story. The need for space, the feeling of being trapped, the decision to leave and call it freedom. But sometimes distance isn't freedom at all. Sometimes it's just another way fear protects itself.
And the difficult part comes later, when you finally understand what made you run... but your pride won't let you go back.
============================
[VERSE]
Some need to know exactly where you've been
Others need to know exactly what you've seen
Many hold you closer every time you leave
They call it love when they won't let you breathe
[CHORUS]
Tell me why I should stay
Your anxiety's not a game I play
...
...
[VERSE]
You wanted answers, I just needed space
Baby, I was tired of running your race
You needed closeness, I needed to be free
Baby, I chose myself instead of you and me
[CHORUS]
Tell me why I should stay
Your anxiety's not a game I play
Tell me why I should stay
Your anxiety's not a game I play
[VERSE]
They say that leaving means you're finally free
But sometimes running hides what you won't see
They say your past is something left behind
But pride can keep it living in your mind
[CHORUS]
Tell me why I should stay
I should've seen your fear another way
Tell me why I should stay
I should've seen your fear another way
Tell me why I should stay
I watched our tomorrow fade away
Tell me why I should stay
My pride won't let me jump to the next daymore
