This instrumental is an ode to all of the smoke sessions I'd have when out on walks in nature. There was this one time where I'd smoked roughly six or so joints (I'd made some crackup choices that day) and I remember lying down on the ground under this palm tree and watching the clouds float past for hours. I was.. Well, pretty far gone that day. "SMOKIN' [d]HOT[z]" is part of my latest album "WHERE'S YOUR SHOES!?" - A story about the healing and grounding experiences I create when walking through the world without shoes. Walking barefoot pretty much everywhere is my way of minding my own business and keeping my shit straight. It's cold, hot, painful, amazing, heals, brings joy, sadness, anger- every emotion and sensation we experience, we feel in our soles as the Earth moves beneath our feet. "CASCADE'' represents a meditative point as I age another year, sonically showcasing another side of DeLaye in a more elated tone. Encapsulated in an upbeat groove, "CASCADE'' is an interpretation of summertime experiences as a child, highlighting the gradual transition of seasons, energies and emotions. The progression of the track follows a carefree being as they explore the world through their senses, moving playfully through the summer season, dancing their way through the heat, beach visits and ice blocks. With slowed and chopped sounds playing, the outro represents feelings of retrospection, looking into one's past and only being able to recall fragments - which is something I continually find myself at the mercy of as I grow older.
