The girls were typically held in what were called "The Villas" or other designated buildings separate from the main boys' dormitories. Reports from former residents, staff, and state investigations have indicated that girls-like the boys—were subjected to abuse, neglect, and mistreatment during their time at the school. I was put in Arthur G Dozier in Marianna 3x in the 70’s as a teenager. I was one of the girls that were repeatedly raped. I tried to run from there. I reported it to officials. I was put in solitary. No one heard us. No one wanted to hear us. My time there wrecked my personal life as an adult for many years. I would see someone that looked like the "man" and I would go almost catatonic. This song is part of my story. This song was really difficult to get through. Lots of tears. I survived. Many boys in previous years did not, they buried the boys in unmarked graves. Some girls after getting out committed suicide. My bunk mate being one that was found dead after getting released. I survived. This is my story. more
