BLACK SWAN: A track to honour these beautiful birds, for the ongoing "black swan event", released from the black swan's habitat of Western Australia. -- 🦢 -- Black Swan started from an idea for a worse-sounding version of this where it was a simple beat playing over that choppy-sounding synth thing you hear throughout the track, but the choppiness was deliberately out of tune. I recorded the choppy sound while turning the LFO dial on a track and had it loop, which is what you hear define this track. There was no atmosphere intended (adding reverb to the bass plucks was my best move in my opinion) and I still can’t believe I made this. -- Very similar to "Island within an Island", which I released here yesterday, this track was made before the coronavirus outbreak happened (September 8, 2019), but was renamed and styled to reflect the times again. I love multiple meanings, so I called this "Black Swan" for the reasons I outlined at the top. ISLAND WITHIN AN ISLAND: When Perth, the most isolated city in the world, became even more isolated due to Western Australia's hard border closure. -- 🏝 -- This track was yet another track I made while bored at my computer, where I took a looping arpeggio I came up with at random, and added a bassline to it, separated by sparse percussions. -- Despite being made in 2018, I felt it was quite appropriate to release this now. Like many musicians, the COVID-19 outbreak has been a big inspiration for their music, with songs, videos, artworks, tracks, and other creative works inspired by this "black swan" event. I reflected this in this track by distancing the letters and adding a remote island to my work with the cover art and title, to symbolise isolation; the music to me just screams "remote island". -- It's been called "Island Within an Island", as that is what WA's premier called the state during the border lockdowns. During this time, Western Australia was locked down into 8 regions, with passes required at each regional border. Isolation and solitude were ideas for the track even back then, now a common feeling for many. -- Overall, the theme I'm trying to present here is social isolation and repetition (seeing the same four walls every day at home...something I've been doing long before this pandemic happened!).
