Inspired by attending the funeral of a friend, this is a musing on life and death. It's a sort of a sea shanty type vibe.
Sunlight glistening away offshore
Cloud crowded sky's aren’t blue any more
Sharp slippy rocks under my feet
The wind blowing rain and hale and sleet
The howling winds can’t blow away sins
Th sunrise promises ‘a better day begins’
Anther day removes another layer
Another sin, brings another pray-er
Moon pulled waters wash stains away
Graceful moments might save the day
In the stone lies a dead reptile
Controlling a legacy is just futile
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
Sitting on the shore
Between land and sea
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
The light from the height
Saving sailors and me
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
The light guides
When I’m all at sea
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
Man’s greatest bane is to forget
But this man’s not ready quite yet
Distant fires burn in the skies
I’m not ready to close my eyes
God’s a placeholder for all the rage
And it all starts with a blank page
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
Sitting on the shore
Between land and sea
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
The bell on the well
Saving sailors and me
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
The bell on the well
Brings clarity
Fa-la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-le
Chance is the woven fabric of life
Change is certain, so is the strife
Make a space for those without
It all disappears, when the lights go out
You don’t need another reason
Calling on god is just species treason
Don’t think of saving your soul
Saving another is what makes you whole
Saving another is what makes you whole
Here I sit between land and sea
Cathedrals of rock looming over me
There’s a climb to escape the tide
Wild white horses too wild to ride
Fossilised remains beneath my sole
Tell me time is eternal at the gallows pole
