In the darkness, lit only by a flickering flame, an 8th century Benedictine Monk wrote his contemplations while trying to fathom the vastness of the existence of the Eternal God. Upon its discovery, this document has become known as the Wessobrunn Prayer:
"This I learned among men as the greatest wonder,
That [once] there was neither earth nor heaven above,
Nor was there tree or mountain
No….[undecipherable] anything, nor did the sun shine
5No moon did glow, nor [was there] the splendid sea.
When there was nothing, there was no end and no change,
There was the one almighty God,
Of all the most generous, and there
