“Humphrey has the impeccable ability to transform a melody into something previously unheard.” – C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz “His is a talent that deserves to flourish. You’re in the company of the next great American jazz singer.” – Thomas Conrad, Jazz Times “Chris projects a sincerity and hipness that never falters, sounds forced or without reserve. It allows him to simply be himself and project the final piece of the whole: individuality. We listeners are fortunate to have available this kind of talent to balance out the forgettable.” – Bob Rusch, Cadence Jazz “Chris sure can sing, what a joy! His singing knocks me out! This guy is a gas!” – jazz legend Sheila Jordan

The Snapper
The second single from the new album "The Voice Of Clark Terry" just dropped! "The Snapper" is the title of Clark's composition, and Les Harris Jr. wrote new lyrics to this minor blues with a bridge. Les' lyrics tell the story of a beloved jazz fan who just can't find the beat. Les brings Clark's tune and his improvised solo from the 1990 recording "Having Fun" to life! more

One Foot In The Gutter
Jazz singer/pianist Chris Humphrey has been working with drummer Les Harris, Jr. on a labor of love in tribute to the great jazz trumpeter Clark Terry. Clark Terry was one of the only musicians to play with both Duke Ellington and Count Basie’s orchestras. His sound on the trumpet and flugelhorn is immediately recognizable and his roots in the blues and soulfully felt music are deep and rich. Clark Terry was given an honorary PHD from the University of NH in 1978 and was a regular presence on the campus for many years before his death in 2015. Chris and Les were both on the faculty at UNH when Clark would have his many residencies and played with him many times. Les has written lyrics to Dr. Terry’s compositions and many of his improvised solos. This single is the first of a DOUBLE ALBUM tribute to CT, “The Voice of Clark Terry”. Chris and Les are joined by pianist Mark Shilansky and bassist Marty Ballou. The recording will feature 7 trumpet players who knew and loved Clark. Barry Danielian, Jeff Stout, Dave Ballou, Chris Burbank, Trent Austin, Tom Palance and Chris Klaxton will all be featured paying tribute to Dr. Terry. Clark’s voice lives on through these musicians who loved and respected the man.more
