I'm a Circassian born in the Adygea Republic, Russia. I was raised in a neighborhood predominantly populated by Russian people and rarely hung out with any other Circassians. My friends back then were no strangers to stereotyping and generalizing all people from the Caucasus, including Circassians. In turn, I have often been told stuff like, "you're a good one," or "you're not like them." This profoundly influenced my view leading me to despise and separate myself from everything associated with my ethnicity. I've come a long way to accept my identity, to take pride in it, to be one with it. But still, I keep meeting people going through the same internalized hatred I experienced back in the day, being ashamed of who they are. This led me to write DISGUST, as I couldn't keep these feelings in anymore.
While my ethnic identity plays a significant role in my music, another part is my view on our life, culture, and sound. I love experimenting and mixing stuff that is not supposed to be mixed, creating something that does not apply to traditional rules. I think that now comes the time when we are all testing, creating, and deconstructing everything in art and music. With that, at the same time, our world is turning out to be not as immutable as we thought it was but rather fluid and diverse. So my essential goal is to transfer that feeling of fluidity and absence of limits to my music and achieve this while still preserving my personality in it.more
