I have been making Techno for the past two and half years, since I bought the Roland TR8s drum machine/rhythm performer. It reignited my interest in making Techno and Electronic music, which had always been a passion of mine, just not in a ‘record it for someone else to hear’ kind of way. After I’d started making videos I joined a group called “Hardware Jams” on Facebook, where they host weekly music-making challenges, based around a theme for the week. We all have from Friday to Sunday to make and share a jam with everyone else, and then we stream through all the tracks, all have a listen and vote for our favourites through the following week. This process of weekly creation, has given birth to a large number of works, from which I then select for release. If you want more music, my Youtube has loads over there, so please have a look (Jonathan R Cross) & follow if you enjoy. or check out www.jonathanrcross.com

Blank Friday
"Blank Canvas! This track game from a challenge where we had no prompt to guide us. Starting a piece of music from scratch can be a challenge and it often helps to have a prompt to get things going. This week I challenge you to come up with something without this aid. So, other than the 5 minute jam limit, there are no rules and no other limitations. Take this chance to make a jam in that style you always wanted to try, go minimal or break out all the toys. Chilled, heavy, slow, fast… anything goes. The prompt is up to you. Have a great time, and let us know what the inspiration was behind your jam. Please keep jams around the 5 minute mark (The only rule) and have fun. Cheers!!" But, I just turned on the machines and started jamming, and recorded that instead. I've been away with work, so it was just really good to get back and switch everything on, and let loose a little bit through the sounds and the journey. Some techno bangingness.more

Indelible
This one was inspired by a story challenge, where we had to select a character from the story to inspire our music. This one was inspired by 'the angry man'. Bass-led Techno, performed live on hardware synths and drum machines. To be released on 10th August 2022. Hyperfollow here https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/jonathanrcross/indelible but if you can't wait, it's on youtube and bandcamp now. Live to the live performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVl3Y0_qxnsmore

Altered States
Check the linked YouTube Vid for trippy visuals!! I really enjoyed making this one. Our challenge title was "Altered States" and I wanted to create something that starts off small, then gradually builds to utter mayhem, before settling back down. It's a nine minute track, so plenty of room for development. Characterised by the detuned synth to give a temporal shift effect to the sounds. An epic journey of a track, which will transport you through space and time, via an interdimensional portal of sound. Ambient beginnings build and evolve into a thick driving techno beat with a twisted synth lead that confuses, disturbs and twists your brain into forming new pathways. Time seems to shift around, only the regular gravitational pulse of the kick keeps grounding you as you ascend. It’s a journey. So sit tight, and see where you end up. 🖤🎛🎧🎛🎧🖤🎧🎛🎧🎛🖤more
