Fame, wealth, and status are topics I discuss a lot in my daily life so it only felt natural to incorporate them into a song. This song was a play on how our society glorifies people for appearing to have wealth of some sort yet, it (we) fails to examine how they obtained that wealth and what they are doing with it. And because of that flaw in the system, more often than not these days, we wind up glorifying people who (as far as I’m concerned) aren’t worthy. People who don’t uphold a respectable value system. ⁠ For example, the person who stole, cheated, and lied their way into substantial financial wealth and now, uses their money and power to manipulate others, spend frivolously, and do very little (or nothing) to help others—is that really a person we want to glorify? Regard as the beacon of something we all want to be? Look at as though they are a celebrity who is worthy of our respect? No. Not at all. And it’s also a double-edged sword. In this song, I talk about the person everyone is looking up to now, who did all of those unscrupulous things to attain financial wealth and how they don’t feel “right” inside. They can’t sleep at night. Meanwhile, in the public eye, they seem like they’ve got it all: The mansions, the cars, the clothes, the men or women that are at their sexual disposal, the botox, the fillers, etc. Yet, when they go home at night and retreat from the world of social media, they feel lonely & unsatisfied. ⁠ But again, this is a complex issue. It’s a personal issue. It’s a cultural issue. It’s a societal issue. And it’s a global issue. If someone is raised with nothing, has nothing, and feels like they are nothing, then, when they get a taste of admiration, value, and respect, they can become addicted and run off course without even realizing it. Here’s to going after our goals and dreams without compromising our morals to do so. And, if we find ourselves in a position where we haven’t done things we respect… here’s to also being kind to ourselves as we straighten back out and make things right.
