“Our Story” begins on the carpet, among cars and dolls, with a little girl talking freely before she knows there are things she isn’t allowed to say. That ordinary childhood moment becomes a lesson in silence, as “our story” is turned into a secret she must keep. Then comes another demand: “Call me Dad.” A word that should mean safety and belonging becomes something she is frightened into saying. The song follows her as she learns to hold back her sentences and carry a name that cannot change what she knows or how she feels. But she grows, and her words grow with her. The ending is a release from the silence imposed on her: he no longer gets to decide whose story it is, or whether she can tell it. What he called “ours” to keep her small becomes hers to speak. “I call it mine now… I tell it all.” - Mastered by mixea.commore
