First track off our EP coming May 13, 2022. When I was a kid, we lived on some old farm land in eastern Washington. My parents didn't keep up with farming on the property, but we had a cattle ranch for neighbors, so we let them use our empty fields as extra grazing land. In the spring, one of the fields would flood with 2-3 feet of water, and the cows liked to hang out in the big pond that formed. On a few occasions, my dad took me out in a tandem kayak to hang out with the cows in the pond. And the pond doubled as an exceptional spot for catching frogs. Some of my most vivid childhood memories involve that pond, and those experiences inspired the opening lines of this song (though in the lyrics, I changed the boat to a canoe because it felt less awkward to sing). Anyway, this song is about the push-and-pull of growing up and trying to make your world bigger without worrying your mom too much in the process. I'm grateful that mine let me do as much as she did.
