Truth's Birth
every word should've had a voice
But stolen it limited choice
whispers quietly inside
collide forced to hide
a past, a history out of view
stuffed in a box that no one knew
down a corridor, a padlocked door
a voice that would rock you to your core
tightly locked and pushed away
so the truth wouldn't slip one day
we live this lie, horror and shame
tried not to point fingers of blame
when asked are you okay
learnt the things we couldn't say.
We learnt to smile and mask the cry
Writing statements to testify.
behind the drawer were poems i hid
folded pages of what they did.
I'm the one who named the wound
carried weight of impending doom
Covering up a silent crime
Whilst playing out a panto mime
Burying truth. kept tears at bay.
This pretence every day
Your Hippocampus fooling us
memories buried, drenched in dust
A truth that bore wisdom in every burn
Each dark secret has its turn
So Give it liberty or give it death
What was buried, give it breath
No victims here and we have no scorn
Its simply the day that our truth was born
a voice that would rock you to your core
no longer locked away
so the truth said every day
Given liberty not death
we gave it breath
No victims here. We have no scorn
Its the day that truth was born
Its the day that truth was born
