RATT
RATT (Run And Tell That) is a bouncy, hyphy, and upbeat eclectic song that really represents who I am in most social senses. It’s meant to be a catchy song that I hope everyone feels inspired to bust out their best dance moves to. When I originally wrote this song, I intended to actually have it be a bit of a twerking song tbh. I wanted to create a song that I could see my friends getting hyped about and want to dance to when they were either pregaming to go out to the bars or just flat-out having a dance party at home. The problem was: I’m just not sure I have it in me lyrically to write a song that lends itself to mindless twerking. So I wound up segueing into something that is more my speed: an eclectic mix of vocals, adlibs, singing, and rapping. I’ve lived the last 3 years or so largely sober (with the occasional drink/drunk occurrence) so this song was my tribute to being able to have fun and enjoy myself sober. When I first decided to stop drinking, I was met with a lot of resistance from friends and peers. There was substantial ridicule and judgment, with the stigma that being sober somehow translated to being a wet blanket. Which is absurd. So in a sense, this is my clap back song for that. To anyone else who might be experiencing change, I encourage you to gravitate towards those people who are supportive of your change. Even if you don’t commit to something like consistent sobriety, maybe you just want to smoke or drink less. Whatever it may be, remember that you define yourself. If someone wants to label you as being “less fun” because you aren’t getting obliterated all of the time with them. That’s okay. Their definition of fun is not your definition of fun (anymore). It doesn’t mean you aren’t “fun,” what it means is that you don’t fit their definition of such. That’s truly all. more
