They all told me get a life Then I did, and I lost mine My flat sits nice above the off-lice Pissed up teens at night Then I fall asleep to the sound Of only needing 20 pounds To go out and eternalise the street They have the world to meet Got to London Underground Newsstands, ads and smog around Delayed trains, a bloody joker’s town The clubs are filled with clowns The good pubs all shut down Life is like this train Am I too early, too late, At the wrong gate? New day, new dawn But the sky at 9AM is bringing sighs No longer see pomp, glory or the king All I see’s the sink Grey morning Thames Withered red telephones, damn UCL Kids getting back from their wild nights out But somewhere else I’m bound Straight to London Underground Newsstands, ads and smog around Delayed trains, a bloody joker’s town I would go out tonight But I’ve got work at nine Life is like this train Am I too early, too late? I’ll never know I’m too early, too late As always Too early, too late more
