Have You Tried Not Being Depressed?
Second track on my upcoming EP, "The Fall and Winter", which will be out on all platforms 12/22/2023 the title of this track is a question posed sarcastically from people who oversimplify and can be condescending towards people struggling with depression. talking to friends i know with depression describe it like an uncomfortable, but warm bed. a bed that you're stuck in and become unwilling to escape from. advice from others trying to help can end up being perceived as empty which creates a sense of frustration with the lack of meaningful help or understanding. this cycle of emptiness and lack of understanding perpetuates more suffering which is only intensified with resentment and frustration towards people who may not fully grasp the depth of the struggle. still, there is a yearning for solace and reassurance. however, the title of the track "have you tried NOT being depressed?" highlights the oversimplification and dismissive advice given to those struggling with depression. overall, the song portrays the challenges, frustration, and complexities of dealing with depression, along with critical commentary on the inadequacies of some well-intentioned but misguided responses from others. Lyrics: Welcome in to your cave No attempt to leave today Don’t stop to relate You’re tearing at my back again Feel free to clean yourself For just this once Now I have attention from all of the directives You’re so clearly oh so empty Hollowness fulfills the all the hopeless victims Who are fucking condescending Pulling me in your den avoiding all suggestions To be free from all the burden Crawl into a crater that you’ll call home Put me back in the case Comfort me, like a bed It’ll help when they say Have you tried not being depressed? For just this once Now I have attention from all of the directives You’re so clearly oh so empty Hollowness fulfills the all the hopeless victims Who are fucking condescending Pulling me in your den avoiding all suggestions To be free from all the burden Crawl into a crater that you’ll call home more
