I had the music for this for many years, a sort of blues shuffle, that was a rewrite or tribute to Steve Miller's "The Stake," (which, in turn, I think was heavily influenced by Rocky Mountain Way). I had a hard time coming up with lyrics that fit, and ended up writing about a couple of past road trips or adventures as I couldn't think of anything else that would work. The first verse was about a jaunt from Seattle to San Francisco done years ago, where I made it on the first night to Redding, the first big town in Northern Cal. The second was about my brief time as a temp driving my car all over the state with the company's laptop and other high tech stuff measuring cell reception.
