Sunday When I Pay is a comedown anthem. Friday night is a savior with silver on its fingers. Sunday morning is a debt collector banging on the blinds, and the narrator knows she'll fall for Friday again anyway.
The sound starts hushed and close a raspy whisper over drum machine and synth arpeggios like a hangover with the lights off. Then it explodes into heavy guitars and a buzzing synth bass for a shout-along chorus, where every high is a loan and Sunday's when you pay.
The lyrics are the most poetic on the album. She swallowed the moon on a dare, she's twenty-six going on a hundred, and the girl she used to be is somewhere in the static. Under the party is grief for that lost version of herself, and it ends with her finally letting the sun in.
In one line a dark electro-punk hangover anthem about the price of every good night.more
