Frederic Anthony, drummer extraordinaire of local Connecticut bands like Yes Please, 27 Prophets, and currently, Shady Street All Stars – as well as lead vocalist of the great RYXNO (“rhino”) – has been releasing a steady stream of singles since April’s “Time to Break It”/"Crazy” double release. In 2018, RYXNO released their debut album, She Called, a ten-song tour de force of pure, raw, balls-to-the-wall rock and roll that saw Fred come from behind the kit with his Jim Morrison-meets-Julian Casablancas voice and exorcise bottled up inner demons that had screams reminiscent of John Lennon on Plastic Ono Band. Since then, the New Haven legend has spent his time with Sam Carlson from Sans Serif Recording in New Haven, CT grow as a songwriter, moving away from the punk influence of She Called to create melodic songs that don’t ever cross the four-minute mark. What’s remained are lyrics about relationships with friends or past romances that show a vulnerable side to this drumming animal
