Keon Washington, now known as Story the Wordsmith is a Southern based paper from the upstate of Greenville, South Carolina. The 30+ year old lyricist and virginia native moved down to South Carolina with his mother and four other siblings at the age of 7 and by then the love for music had already claimed him. He would take cassette tapes and record his favorite songs on the radio so he could play them back until he remembered all the lyrics and cadences. His music style cannot be labeled by one style or genre, it’s a fusion of backpack, rap rock, new age boom bap and emo rap, country trap, horrorcore and bounce and drill. You’ll also note quickly the heavy infusion of r&b and “sing rap” as he credits much of his being on 90’s-00’s rap and one of his biggest inspirations is Teddy Reily and the New Jack Swing era. Heavily inspired by artists like OutKast, Slick Rick, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Eminem, CNN, Lil Wayne, J. Cole & Kendrick his goal is to bring his own sound.
