Born on the grape vines of California’s Central Valley, Omar Naré’s sound is a vogue blend of Mariachi and Sophista-Pop. “I listen to Alejandro Fernandez, Sting, Sade, and Abdel Halim Hafez,” says the composer. “People say they feel a Californio spirit in my Mariachi.” His dark cover of Sabor A Mi was national news on NPR’s Ground Truth Project. Remezcla called the version “Epic!” and the New York Times said Naré was “trying to reinvigorate the traditional music of Mexico” when they shared his story. During that time, Naré met Larry Bastian, songwriter to Country Music’s biggest hits like “Unanswered Prayers” by Garth Brooks. Together they wrote “Mañana Es Para Siempre,” a song that puts a human face on immigration. “My grandfather had to leave my abuela in Mexico to work up north,” Omar said. “I’ve been thinking about how he must have felt.
