Omby Amby is a rock outfit in Portland OR. It is a new project from singer/songwriter/producer Jason Logan. Logan spent his early years writing, recording and touring with his band Beyond Zebra who signed with Twin/Tone Records, one of the most infamous indie labels in the US and home to seminal artists Soul Asylum, The Replacements, Ween, The Jayhawks, and others. The band released two CDs on the label during the grungy early '90s. Logan released a solo CD in 2000 showcasing melodic, vulnerable songs and stepping away from his previous hard rock sound. Brien Lilja (Slim Dunlap, Draghounds) supplied the rich, driving drums and Eric Heywood (Son Volt, Joe Henry) added some beautiful pedal steel. Logan played the rest of the instruments himself, laying down tight harmonies and well placed riffs to complement the distilled, open voice driving the songs. The record was not well promoted but fans drew flattering comparisons to The Faces, Big Star, and Tom Petty.
